It’s been fascinating to see the transformation of the old Sea Containers building (where I first worked on arrival in London as a marketing department temp) into Ian Schrager’s new Mondrian hotel. British designer Tom Dixon’s interiors evoke the mood of a sexed-up, disco version of the ballroom of an elegant transatlantic Art Deco ocean liner. Head to the Dandelyan bar on the ground floor for a signature cocktail by award-winning mixologist Mr Lyan (Ryan Chetiyawardana, voted one of the city’s key movers and shakers by London’s well-respected daily newspaper the Evening Standard). Try a non-alcoholic Dandelyan Sourless (apple juice shaken with a floral syrup, lime and egg white) or for a little kick, a Catkin mixed with Mr Lyan’s gin, blackberry, birch wine and leaf, mint and caraway.
